How Does Microneedling Work?

At Tufford Medical Aesthetics, we use a revolutionary device called the V2 Pen to inject filler into your skin. This allows us to be precise and accurate with our technique, as the filler is delivered via tiny micro-needles. Activating your body's wound healing response during microneedling helps to produce more collagen and elastin, making your skin look thicker and stronger while also improving its texture.

Prior to starting treatment, we'll offer you a numbing cream for added comfort. While there may be some slight bleeding involved during the session, it will be nothing too major! We recommend three treatments spaced out over three weeks in order to get optimal results.

Results & Recovery

After your microneedling treatment at Tufford Medical Aesthetics, you may experience some redness and small raised dots at the injection site. These bumps will usually go away within 24-72 hours (depending on how hydrated your skin was to begin with). You may also experience a bit of bruising and swelling. To help ensure optimal healing, we suggest avoiding exercise and wearing makeup for the first 24 hours post-treatment.

With minimal amount of pain and downtime required, you can get long-lasting microneedling before and after results with just three treatments administered during one year or less. You're sure to love seeing your skin look amazing.

FAQs

  • How long does a Microneedling session last?

The length of the session depends on the areas being treated and the size of those areas. Generally, microneedling sessions take between 15 to 30 minutes.

  • What is the difference between microneedling and PRP?

Microneedling and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) are two different treatments which achieve similar results but use very different approaches.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses tiny needles to create tiny punctures in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and promoting collagen production.

PRP is a more involved treatment that uses the patient’s own blood. Blood is drawn and then spun in a centrifuge to separate out the platelets, which are rich in growth factors. The platelets are then injected into areas of concern or skin that needs rejuvenation, stimulating collagen production and improving skin texture and tone.

It is important to consult with a professional to discuss which procedure best suits your needs.

  • Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

A good candidate for microneedling is someone with skin that needs rejuvenation, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring. Microneedling can also help reduce the appearance of large pores and sun damage. People with relatively healthy skin who are looking to maintain their youthful complexion may also benefit from the procedure.

Those who are not good candidates for microneedling include those with active acne, open wounds, active infections, or skin diseases (such as rosacea and eczema). People with a history of keloid scarring should also avoid the procedure. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not undergo microneedling, as well as those who take certain medications that might increase bleeding.
